أفعى لبنان (Montivipera bornmuelleri) هي أصغر أنواع الأفاعي الموجودة في لبنان، حيث نادرًا ما يتجاوز طول البالغين منها 60 سنتيمترًا. تكون الإناث عادةً بنية اللون مع نمط بني داكن، في حين أن الذكور رمادية اللون مع نمط داكن يكاد يكون أسود. مثل معظم أفراد عائلة الأفاعي السامة (Viperidae)، تتميز أفعى لبنان برأس بيضاوي عريض قليلاً وجسم سميك مقارنةً بطولها. هذا النوع يلد بين اثنين و18 صغيرًا.

تم تسجيل هذا النوع في المناطق الجبلية المرتفعة في لبنان وسوريا والأجزاء المحتلة من جبل حرمون، على ارتفاع يتراوح بين 1,700 و2,200 متر فوق مستوى سطح البحر. يتواجد في سلسلة جبال لبنان، وجبل حرمون ضمن جبال لبنان الشرقية، كما يوجد أيضًا في جبل العرب (الدروز) في سوريا. يمكن العثور عليه في غابات الأرز والمراعي الجبلية وبين النباتات الشجيرية الصلبة والصخور.

تُعتبر Montivipera bornmuelleri مهددة عالميًا بالانقراض وفقًا للقائمة الحمراء للاتحاد الدولي لحفظ الطبيعة (IUCN). تم تصنيفها ضمن الفئة “مهددة بالانقراض” لأن نطاق تواجدها يقل عن 5,000 كيلومتر مربع. توزيعها يعاني من تفتت شديد، مع استمرار تدهور مدى وجودة موائلها الجبلية بسبب الرعي الجائر، وتدهور بيئتها المناسبة نتيجة استخدام المركبات على الطرق الوعرة، بالإضافة إلى تطوير صناعة التزلج. في جبل حرمون، تتعرض هذه الأفعى للتهديد بسبب تحويل موائلها للاستخدام العسكري، كما يتم قتلها من قبل القرويين.
