Like most Viperidae, the Lebanon viper has an oval, slightly wide head and a thick body relative to its length. This species gives birth to between two and 18 young.
The Montivipera bornmuelleri is considered globally Endangered, according to the IUCN Red List. It is Listed as Endangered because its extent of occurrence is less than 5,000 km². Its distribution is severely fragmented with the continuous decline in the extent and quality of its montane habitat through overgrazing, the degradation of suitable habitat through the use of off-road vehicles, and by the development of the skiing industry. On Mount Hermon it is threatened by the development of its habitat for use by the military, it is being killed by the villagers.
